Sold Star light, star bright, The first star I see tonight; I wish I may, I wish I might, Have the wish I wish tonight. Do you wish upon stars? The star in this ring lives inside a natural white sapphire cabochon in a vintage 1940s dress ring, with a supporting chorus of sparkly single cut diamonds in the ribbon-like scrolling shoulders. Natural star sapphires are highly prized gemstones, the value of the stone being determined in part by the nature of the star – the more prominent and the straighter the rays on the star, the more highly prized it becomes. As with all gemstones the size of the cabochon and its colour and clarity are all part of the equation. This star sapphire likes to pretend it’s a moonstone, glowing ethereally until it is hit by a point light source (such as the sun or a light bulb) when the star sapphire bursts into view and dances upon the surface of the stone, moving as you do. It’s quite the special phenomenon, and if you believe in magic it’s one you won’t tire of. Manufacture: Modelled in a mixture of precious metals, the face of the ring is a palladium alloy with white gold shoulders and a white gold shank. The metals have been verified by XRF test, however given the range of metals used in this ring I’m not surprised there are no hallmarks. The star sapphire has been verified as a natural gemstone by an independent gemologist. It is white with a tendency towards lavender, with a soft glow similar to moonstone. The sapphire cabochon measures approximately 11.09mm x 7.9mm x 6mm – about 5.75 carats. The sapphire is held in place in a four clawed bezel. The shoulders are set with 22 single cut diamonds – 2x 2mm and 20 x 1.5mm, with a total diamond carat weight of 0.36 carats. The larger diamonds are in their own four clawed setting, the other 20 are embedded into the scrolling ribbons. The undercarriage of the ring is made in filigree style, giving the ring a light and airy look. The band is a classic half round that tapers from 2.5mm at the shoulders to 1.54mm at the back of the band. The ring sits 8.66mm high on the finger. Weighs 4.45 grams. Size (Aus/UK) P 1/2 (US) 8 (International) 56.5 somewhat resizable, please get in touch for a resizing quote or to confirm that it can be resized to your requirements. Condition: In good vintage condition, signs of wear commensurate with age. The rhodium plating on the white gold band has worn off in places, and there is some slight thinning to the back of the band. Should the ring need to be resized both of these minor cosmetic issues would be remedied. Ready for immediate wear.
