Myra Adele Logan, an African-American doctor from Tuskegee, Alabama, was the first woman to perform open heart surgery (it had only been performed 8 times previously). She also helped develop better breast cancer detection techniques. Whitney Brown produced this portrait for us as part of our Heroes & Inspirations project.
